Crisis Line Training

Crisis Line volunteers will go through 34 hours of classroom learning. Throughout the training, you will learn our Active Listening philosophy, HopeLine policies & procedures, lethality assessment protocols, and specific skills for crisis de-escalation. Volunteers will then go through 4 two-hour internships where they are paired with a mentor to begin answering crisis calls.

Volunteers on the lines can expect to help people experiencing:

  • mental health emergencies

  • suicide

  • domestic violence

  • loneliness

  • grief

  • child abuse

  • trauma

  • addiction & recovery

Reassurance Calls

Reassurance volunteers participate in a portion of our crisis line training, where they learn our Active Listening philosophy, lethality assessment, and HopeLine policies and procedures. This tailored training prepares volunteers to make meaningful outbound calls as part of our Reassurance program.

Reassurance program participants are typically elderly or homebound individuals with little to no daily support. These friendly check-in calls aim to reduce loneliness and isolation within our community.
