Position: Part Time Crisis / Text Line Advocate  

Reports to: Program Coordinator / Executive Director 

Scope: The Part Time Crisis / Text Line Advocate is responsible for HopeLine Crisis Line and Text Line coverage during shift times that are traditionally hard to cover with volunteers. Shift times will primarily be evenings and weekends. This position is also responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator and Volunteer Manager with volunteer training and orientation, and in helping to create and facilitate supportive relationships with volunteers. Official schedule will be set after an applicant is chosen and will be subject to change to reflect the needs of HopeLine. Advocate will work 18-20 hours a week at a rate of $12.50 per hour.   

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:   

Examples of key responsibilities are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.  

  1. Use HopeLine training to answer crisis calls and texts  

  2. Complete Reassurance Calls during appropriate hours 

  3. Complete call reports, call exceptions, and other logging activities  

  4. Embody the HopeLine mission and Active Listening philosophy 

  5. Participate in training and orientation of volunteers 

  6. Participate in in-class training and volunteer recognition/retention events 

  7. Follow all HopeLine policies and procedures  

 

Specific Requirements: 

Candidate should possess the ability to be communicative, reliable, computer literate, comfortable with technology and the use of standard HopeLine programs and networks. Applicant must be trained and show proficient skill in HopeLine specific Active Listening. If candidate chosen is not HopeLine Active Listening trained, there will be compensation to complete training. Should possess excellent communication skills and be very comfortable with challenging/ recurring callers and texters. Applicant should be extremely organized, self-motivated, be able to multi-task and also work in partnership with the Volunteer Manager, Program Coordinator, and Executive Director.
