It pains me to write this blog, but it is clearly something that needs to be addressed. If you haven't heard already, or seen the traumatic images flashing across your tv screen/Facebook feed, there has been yet another, yes ANOTHER mass school shooting. The shooting took place at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. What is known at this time is there were 17 people killed and at least 14 others hospitalized. The suspect is a 19 year old former student of the high school.
In the coming days and weeks, more and more information will be released as to how something like this could have happened. At HopeLine, we are not suggesting that we are experts of any kind in regards to the complex issues that surround mass shootings like this, but we do have something to say:
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
If you are someone who is struggling with violent thoughts, you are not alone.
If you are someone who is considering violence (towards yourself or others) as an answer to inner turmoil and suffering, you are not alone.
If you have lost a loved one to gun violence, you are not alone.
If you have watched this happen over and over and over again, and feel hopeless, you are not alone.
If you are angry, you are not alone.
If you are worried about someone or see something suspicious but aren't sure what to do, you are not alone.
If you are scared, you are not alone.
If you want to know what more you can do to help, you are not alone.
If seeing the constant news reports is overwhelming and difficult for you to watch and understand, you are not alone.
If you feel like no one understands you, you are not alone.
If you don't know how to put into words how you are feeling, you are not alone.
If you feel numb, you are not alone.
